My name is Nathan Elliott and I have served the people of Mount Freedom as pastor since 2008. My number one passion is to present God’s Word to God’s people and to encourage them to believe and obey it.
All the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is the Word of God and teaches us the way of life, joy and peace with God the Father through Jesus and true community with one another. Because I firmly believe this, my preaching and teaching consists of reading a passage from Scripture and then explaining what it means and how it relates to our lives. Most often I will preach through books of the Bible, alternating between the Old and New Testaments.
I grew up as a pastor’s son on the shores of Lake Erie in Pennsylvania. The call to become a pastor settled on me when I was in eighth grade. Someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I realized I wanted to be a pastor. At that time I devoted myself to reading my Bible and sharing with others about Jesus throughout my years in public high school.
Moody Bible Institute in Chicago was my next step in preparation for pastoral ministry. These were rich years of studying the Bible and ministering in a variety of contexts throughout the city. I then went to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville with an interest in learning how to preach the Old Testament for the church today. My love for all of God’s Word grew ever deeper during these years.
After seminary I married Susanna in December 2005 and moved to Wilmore where she was a student at Asbury University. I worked at Lowe’s in Nicholasville from 2006-2013.
My deep desire is to see people surrender their lives to King Jesus and then grow in their relationship with him. To that end I continue to strive in prayer and preaching that our Lord Jesus might be honored by our lives of joyful worship and service.
